Our History
PreciKam is the result of the merger between Precimold and Kamek Precision Tools. The combined company has over 75 years of molding and mold-making experience.
Precimold was founded in 1966 by Gunter Weiss, a new Canadian from Germany who arrived in Canada with $80 in his pocket. Over the years it grew into a recognized industry leader in complex mold making, engineered resins and technical plastic injection molded components. Precimold was the first company to build a mold for a prestigious German automotive part maker outside of Germany. The German toolmakers said it could not be done yet Gunter and Precimold accomplished the impossible.
Gunter was a Plastic Industry Man of the Year in the 1980s. By 2016 Precimold had developed a deep niche in the production of automotive parts that grew to represent over 85% of its revenue with 65% concentrated in one customer. Jack McDonald and Janet McDonald bought Precimold in late 2016. The Precimold team quickly determined the risk in the company’s market and customer concentration. The team, looking at the other skills and Certifications the company possessed, started the pivot to medical device molding and assembly. A key factor for success in these markets is a modern production facility which Kamek possessed in Baie d’Urfé.
Kamek Precision Tools was founded in 1996 by Hans Kerber, a new Canadian from Austria. Kamek became an award-winning high precision molder and assembler with a strong medical and aerospace clientele. Kamek built its reputation on tight processes and pride in how parts are made and assembled. Under Hans’ leadership Kamek won an accolade award as the best manufacturer in the West Island of Montreal in 2011. It also won numerous awards from its customers as “Best Supplier”. Kamek’s facility contained a sophisticated clean room and segregated areas for assembly and other post molding operations.
Merging of Two Precision Molding Groundbreakers
Precimold acquired Kamek very late in 2018, operating under the brand name of PreciKam to honour the spirit of the two companies. The combined company consolidated in Baie d’Urfé and has over 80 years of molding and mold making experience. Pierre Cameron, Susan Raywood and an investor with decades of medical experience became shareholders in the company over the past five years. The entire team is very aware of the success they have created and are proud of the work it took. We believe that the last five years are only a shadow of what the team will accomplish in the next ten.
